Shishaldin — "Sisquk" to the Unangax̂ people — is the most symmetrical cone in North America, an arctic Fuji rising 2,857 m from Unimak Island and almost never fully asleep. The panorama takes in its whole base: tundra plains braided with ash-grey rivers, snowy flanks, and the white summit playing hide-and-seek in the clouds. A wide, breathing view from the lookouts at the Alaska Volcano Observatory / USGS.
