Nelson Lagoon is an Aleut village set on a sand spit on the Bering Sea side of the Alaska Peninsula. In the frame: a mother-of-pearl lagoon, a few fishing boats at anchor, a flat horizon running forever. Between ash alerts, the camera offers some of the softest light in the AVO / USGS network.
