From Sitka in Southeast Alaska, the view crosses the Sound to Mount Edgecumbe — L'x̣ in Tlingit — a sleeping volcano resting on Kruzof Island. On fine days it wears a collar of clouds above a sea scattered with forested islets. Long thought extinct, it began to stir again in 2022 — and the AVO / USGS promptly put it back under watch.
